Os Habitantes dos Castros.

The Castrexo Cultural Phenomenom Fenómeno developes from the last stages of the Bronze Age to end at the  starts of the Middle Ages, with its apogee at Iron Age and Roman Time. Whitin this cultural phenomenom bloom a series of cultures that develope in the time under the common denominator of the castro (hillfort), settlement that gives the nome to this phenomenom.

In these time the castros were changing their location type and their morphologhical characteristics, while changes in their internal organization and their landscape exploitation are documented.

The geographical distribution of the castrexo is located in a Norwest area of the Iberian Peninsule that includes Galicia, O Bierzo, the Occident of Asturias, the North of Portugal from the Vouga river, and other neighbouring areas.

Traditionally it was used to relate the Castrexo Phenomenom to the Celtics, today is confirmed his genesis from the evolution of the previous indigenous world and the contact with the rest of European cultures of the time. In the castrexa  society some authours liked to see certain fighter character, but that it´s not true.

The economy was based, like in the previous times, in agriculture and cattle raising, using as one complement  the harvesting of wild froits, the fishing, the operation of marine resources, and, in smaller quantity, the hunting. Comercial relations was promoted, especially with the Mediterranean, also with the minning activities.

In the material culture we observed a great developement in the ceramics and also in the work of metals, specially in gold work. Even so, they also continue making stone pieces.
